July 2016

Eleven TAGY members were present for the July meeting, with eight participating in Show & Tell. The placemats with "dinner" at the right are this month's challenge. The August challenge will be "school".

This month we discussed a new fiber art Challenge for this year.  Ginger previously suggested we consider child abuse awareness, an area where she has been actively involved for many years. There was much discussion on how we could do this without being too graphic or bringing up too many bad feelings.  Several of the members said they want their quilting time to be a happy time and not focus on the world's problems, but rather to escape them.  It was suggested that since our last challenge was the WWII internment at Heart Mountain, perhaps our new challenge should be a lighter subject.

Ginger explained that we could choose to focus on the positive aspects of intervening and helping the children, and the rewards of them finding someone to love them. Often the child's relations (grandparents, aunts & uncles, etc) will step up and want to help.  Jeanne suggested the title be " A Place in Someone's Heart".  This title was adopted (pun intended).

"A Place in Someone's Heart" will be 18" x 24", either orientation you prefer. It must have a label on the back and a sleeve for hanging.  This challenge will be due at the March 2017 meeting.

Other Show & Tell items are shown below:
