June 2, 2025

Thirteen lovely artists met at the Grizzly Room in the Cody Library on June 2, 2025: Alice, Sonya, Sue M., Pam, Jan W., Ellen D., Vonda, Sue B., Lili, Laura G., Cindy, Barb M. and Sue S. (did I miss anyone?)

Thank you, Barb M., for taking notes and photos!

Announcements:

  • Monthly Challenge for July:  Black (color), Circle (element) Tag (shape)
  • Jeanne has the program for July
  • We will hang our Map Quilts in the Powell bank in November.  We have the big wall. Hopefully we will have enough maps to fill the space.
  • Bring your Map Quilt to the July meeting!!!
  • We decided to sponsor a chair ($200) in the Pardners Cafe and dedicate it to Ellen Burkhart. Lili is in charge of the envelope that was sent around.  We collected about 1/2 the $200 needed. The Meeteetsee Chatelain Quilt Guild donated the remainder of the needed money.

  • Barb passed around the children’s book “Tar Beach” by Faith Ringgold. Her collection of five quilts hangs in an exhibit called “Woman on a Bridge” at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Her quilt and the story Tar Beach were inspired by her nighttime observations from her bedroom window.  The George Washington Bridge and the social gatherings on the roof top next door.  The story of Tar Beach is inscribed on the borders of the quilt used to illustrate the book.

Pam uses the hem of old sheets for quilt hanger sleeve instead of creating a new one. The perfect size for a dowel rod! Genius!

Jan W. received recognition at Cody Country Art Show for her Quilt Map of Yellowstone!  Second place and $$!

Lili put finishing touches on a Meeteetsee Quilt Guild donation quilt.

Memory quilt in honor of Ellen Burkhart.  Meeteetsee Chatelaine Quilt Guild members made the blocks. Awesome!

One of Barb's "Hospital Challenges."  It's a stamped tea bag and 2-3 squares of fabric with random stitching.

...more of Barb's "hospital" stitching on the fish print from a previous TAGY program.

Laura's recycled jean legs made a great quilt with Minky on the back.  Yummy!

The Program:  Kawandi Quilting with Alice

Alice presented a very informative program and demo on Kawandi Quilting. It's a great way to experience a traditional quilting method from another culture.  It's creative and uses scraps or recycled clothing.

Alice presented a demonstration on Kawandi Quilting.

Laura studies an instruction sheet on Kawandi quilting.

The instruction sheet!
