The first 2014 meeting of Textile Artists of Greater Yellowstone (TAG) was held on Monday, January 6th.

Reminder that our 2013 Old Trail Town Challenge is due at the February meeting.  These are to be 18" x 24" horizontal orientation.  These pieces will travel to various venues for exhibit in the coming months.

Our new 2014 Textile Art Project challenge is due in September, and this was revisited as some members wanted more choices of techniques to use.  For this challenge please choose two techniques that interest you.  One can be a technique you are comfortable with, and the other should be trying something new. These projects will be 18" x 24" vertical orientation.  (Since I wasn't at the meeting, I am hoping I interpreted this right.  If not, please revise this, or let me know and I will revise it).

Our first Learning Challenge, is "Landscape".  Interpret this any way you want, and bring a small piece (12" x 12") to the February meeting.  This is a good time to try new techniques or refine your old favorites.

Marybeth provided the program with a demo of Golden products to be used with art and fiber art.
It has been requested that in the future, members please RSVP whether or not you will be attending the meeting. This will help the program coordinator for each month know how much material (copies, etc) to bring.

January 2013

Eleven TAGY members met on January 7th to start the New Year off on a positive note.  Present were: Jeanne, Jeannette, Linda, Jane, Marybeth, Lili, Patty, Pam, Ginger, Alice, and our newest member Cate Parrish. Welcome, Cate.

Our TAGY group started the first Wyoming Chapter of the National Quilting Association (NQA) last year.  In support of National Quilting Day, on March 16th, we will meet at the Quilt House in Powell for a day of fabric dyeing, beginning at 9 a.m.  We will take photos, which will be sent to the NQA to be part of their showcase at the NQA Quit Show in Columbus, Ohio, on June 27-29, 2013.

Jeanne bought black Kona cotton cloth for background drapes for hanging our Book Challenge Quilts at the Big Sky Quilt Retreat and Show in Billings, MT, March 6-9.  It was decided to make the drapes a uniform size so they can be used for other TAGY exhibits in the future, and also used at the Yellowstone Quilt Fest for the art quilt category display.  Everyone present purchased 2 yards of the fabric from Jeanne, and took it home to make the drapes.  Those not present can obtain their cloth from Jeanne at a shared cost of $10 each.

Required Drape Size:  63" finished length.
We will make a 4 inch hanging sleeve along the top, with 1/2 inch turned under for the hem.  The hem along the sides and bottom of the drape will be 1/2" rolled twice.
Our Book Challenge quilts will be tacked onto the finished drape at 12 inches from the top.

Linda M mentioned two of her art quilts are on display at the State of the Art textile exhibition at Red Rocks Community College in Colorado.  She also read a nice email she received from the interpreter working at Devils Tower who said her Devil's Tower quilt "is an inspirational piece of artwork and it truly expresses many aspects of the area including the cultural history and the geology."  Linda appreciates that they took the time to email her with their comments. They came across a photo of the quilt on-line.
