December 2017

This is a reminder that the TAGY Christmas exchange and Pot Luck lunch will on January 8th from 12 noon to 3 pm.  If you bring a gift, you take a gift.

Ginger reminded us that the Bank of Wyoming in Powell has invited TAGY members to hang art quilts for the month of January.  It was decided to hang the "Fences" challenge quilts along the long wall of the bank, and any other quilts, including "Wild West" on the shorter wall.  Since we have two walls to fill, please bring lots of your challenge or art quilts.  Ginger has asked Vicki if we can drop them off at Friends and Company in Cody.  Please have your art quilts there (each with an Artist Statement) before December 29th. Check to be sure your name and the name of the quilt is on the back (can be pinned) so we can return it to you.

Karling offered to pick up the quilts and take them to Powell, but she will not be able to hang them.  The art quilts will be hung on January 2nd at 9:30 am.  Linda will bring pins for hanging, and will need help hanging the display that morning.

When the quilts are taken down at the end of January, they will be taken to a Cody Bank for display in February.  Ginger is making arrangements.
Credit card holders

Show and Tell
Pam showed credit card holders that she made for Christmas presents for friends.  She also made an Airport play quilt for her granddaughter.
Ginger showed her knitted scarf.
Linda showed the book "Fly Me to the Moon" which includes photos of quilts made by her and by Jeanne K.

Challenges
Monthly Learning Challenges for 2018.

Karling  showed the 12-colors on her Color-Wheel, and suggests we use one color for each month.  The colors will be listed on this blog (to the right).
Pam discussed doing a "What If" challenge where we experiment with new techniques.  We do not need to have a "finished" product for Show and Tell, but we will show the results of what each person has tried.
It was voted to adopt both suggestions and have no size restrictions.

Yearly Challenge
Marketplace
Earlier in the year it was decided to use a photo for inspiration for our yearly
challenge, and limit the size to a maximum of 100 inches around the perimeter.
Alice listed the photos shared (by email) on the white-board, and Ginger showed pictures of the photos on her phone.  The two most popular photos were Judy's "Marketplace (with scales)", and Linda's "Doors".  The "Marketplace" won by one vote and was chosen for this year's challenge.  We will revisit "Doors" next year.

Program
Flip-flop quilt top
Jan W gave an interesting program on the uses of Misty Fuse.  She recently made a quilt top with Flip-Flop sandals (right) that required use of a fusible and she showed us her process.  Pam showed some experiments with painting Misty Fuse for shading.
Jan also showed a mosaic quilt made by Jeanne K in which Misty Fuse was used (below).
