Show & Tell, Sep 2019

There were 16 members and 2 guests in attendance on Sept 9th. Jeanne K started the meeting with introductions and announcements.



Show & Tell followed with quilts, projects, challenge pieces, dyeing paper and linen, and examples from Marie Shirley-Jones's painting with thickened dyes.

Jan H, Sue S, Judy M, Marie S_J, Pam H, Jeannette B & Carol S showed project from their dye class given in Red Lodge by Marie.

Jeanne K showed two finished UFO quilts. The hand embroidered angel blocks were made by both Jeanne and her mother. She has enough to make 2 quilts for granddaughters. The strip quilt was started in a class many years ago.

Ben E showed her "What's Blooming in Wyoming" challenge quilt for Paintbrush Piecers' Quilt Guild.  It features embroidery knots to make Queen Anne's Lace.

Marie S-J shared her piece inspired by Native American' Ledger Art.  It is a work of love the must be seen in person to truly appreciate the thoughtful care she put into every element. She acknowledges that she is not a Native American but approached the project with respect and admiration for the women and their day-to-day work. The Piece is called "Plains Indian Women".

This month's program was sharing tips and solutions for quilting and fiber arts problems. They included:
several types of pins;
using a wool pin cushion for sharpening pins;
a handy All-in-One Quilters Reference Tool book;
iron cleaning methods with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and fabric softener sheets;
Snip the corners off fabric to avoid "strings" when prewashing;
use a bobbin winder to save wear and tear on your machine;
pay attention to the way your thread curls coming off the spool to determine placement on horizontal or vertical post;
how to make paint and dye daubers using project foam;
a portable ironing table made by drilling holes in a TV tray surface and covering it with padding and pretty fabric;
serrated scissors for fine work;
a magnetic solution to keep scissors handy; and
sandpaper on a board to make tracing applique easier.
