March 2013, Silk Screens with Shaving Cream

Jeanne, Linda, Marybeth, Pam, and Julie met at the Cody Country Art League before the TAGY meeting to hang art quilts for a two week exhibit.

Present at the March meeting were: Jeanne, Linda, Marybeth, Pam, Julie, Jan, Jeannette, Patty, Carolyn, Alice, Barbara, and Ginger.  Julie presented the program of silk screen dyeing with shaving cream.  Julie has a thermofax machine to make silk screens and graciously offered to let us borrow it when needed.

Several members have mentioned that we should have a second challenge this year, since the Gossip Challenge is for one month each, and we aren't working on anything (for the group) the rest of the time.  Jeanne suggested we take a photography trip to Old Town, and each make a quilt from a photo.  She will look into when it will be open for us to do this.

We were reminded of National Quilt Day on March 16th, when we will meet at the Quilt House in Powell for ice dyeing at 9am.  Everyone should bring a natural fiber fabric to dye (cotton, silk, linen, rayon, no polyesters).  You will need a colander, a bucket to set it in to catch the drippings, and a bag of ice. We will also have a pot luck lunch.
Linda will email directions to the Quilt House. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can do this outdoors.
As members of the Wyoming chapter of NQA, photos of how we spent National Quilt Day will be displayed at the National Quilt Association's show in Columbus, Ohio.
