December 2018

From Jan Wilbur:
There were fifteen members present.  The meeting started with introductions and show& tell.

The January 7, TAGY holiday party and potluck lunch starting at Noon was discussed.  The optional gift exchange theme is a fortune cookie saying and should be home made.  Lindsay Mollett will provide utensils and; Zann Liljergren will bring paper goods.  Remember the time is an hour earlier for this get together.

Jan Wilbur told about the project to collect sewing, quilting, knitting, kits, crafting & general needlework items for the Camp Fire victims in California.  Generous material donations were put out for viewing and donations to help with postage were given.  An email from TAGY member, Rebecca True, was shared with the group.  Rebecca is in Chico, CA and described the devastation in the area that she is seeing first-hand.  Members present also signed cards sending well wishes to the recipients that will be included in the boxes of donations.

Ginger Dager showed a baby quilt she recently finished for a new baby in the family.  Judy Mackie quilted it.

Jan Hoar thanked everyone for donated items used to stock the Park County Humane Society booth at the CIS craft fair.  They earned $1465.

Lindsay Mollett shared a great idea to keep bobbins neat & tidy using mini ponytail holders.

Barbara Harrison made a beautiful felted needle holder.

Pam Harris showed matching luggage handle covers & i.d. tags to make it easier to recognize your own bags.  She had the 2019 ‘Calendar Girls’ fiber arts group in Anchorage calendar & a motivator deck of ‘Start Your Art’ cards.

Pam Harris presented a program entitled “What if…?”  She described her various trial & error projects with interesting results.  She had examples of techniques using fabric, felt, stabilizers, paints, a heat gun, Tyvek & Lutrador, glue & more!

‘Blobs’ using wash away stabilizer & thread in a flat hoop making it easier to put under your machine needle.

Beads made using Tyvek wrapped around a knitting needle & melted with a heat gun.

Transforming ‘ugly’ fabric, napkins, etc. using tissue paper over-lay & white Elmer’s glue.  Then embellish with acrylic paint or Dynaflo.

Stamping layers of organza & Misty Fuse stabilizer to enhance dimensional appearance.

Lace making on felt, stabilizer & Lutrador.  Cotton thread is best to avoid melting under heat.

String art created by pulling string, thread, yarn or any long item between two sides of a folded sheet of paper or fabric with paint.

Paint stamping to change the appearance of ‘ugly’ fabric.

Stamping with bleach to add dimension.

Cut, re-sew, repeat to re-purpose quilt blocks that aren’t appealing in their original form.  Pam shared a story about cutting blocks apart and remaking them to the horror of a woman in the quilt guild.  That quilt ended up in a magazine feature and Pam found a different guild to join!

Even Pam’s drop cloth for experimenting is a work of art!
